Is there currently a way to distinguish views by user role (for example, Creator vs. Viewer) within the statistics report?

Our primary interest is student views, but it appears the current reporting includes views from all users with access to the video. If role-based filtering or reporting is not currently available, how are other institutions identifying student-only viewership?

We would appreciate any guidance or best practices from the community.

Update: We learned that views are currently recorded regardless of user role, and the statistics do not indicate whether the user was a Viewer, Creator, Videographer, or Administrator. A feature request has been submitted (FR-2008) to add role-based reporting and filtering options.

They were all working until this week… The fix in each case was the user clicking the Panopto Video navigation link in the Canvas course. This re-asserted permissions and users report all is working after that click. Is anyone else seeing this? Why is it happening? Did a product update from Canvas or Panopto cause this? We have a ticket in - 01014657

My hope is to bulk delete the old folders and not have them provision again.

I have had a ticket open since Monday, as we are still experiencing issues with user provisioning from Canvas to Panopto. Users can get access to their recordings if they start at their course in Canvas and then go to Panopto Video from the navigation pane there, but they only have access to that one Panopto folder. Past courses provisioned from Canvas are gone, and if they navigate away from that current course, they immediately lose access to that course, so new provisioning is not sticking.

According to last night's email, this problem has been resolved by Panopto as of last Friday, but we are still experiencing it and getting zero feedback on the ticket. Are we alone here, or are there other schools also having this issue? Thanks!

I have actually submitted this to support last fall when we discovered problems after upgrading to 1.3. No updates from support so posting here for more attention. Two big issues:

Cannot disable the grade by % viewed option. We did not want to enable this feature because of the 3-hour delay of grade syncing. There's an option for support which says "allow grade by % viewed", so left this unchecked. However, it turned out that disabling this option also stopped the grad sync for quiz grades. Support acknowledged this was a bug but provided no solution or eta. We had no choice but enabling the % option so our quizzes can be synced.

Assignment title overwritten. With 1.3 in Canvas, after you choose a video to embed as an assignment, the title of the assignment would be overwritten by the video title, and you'd have to manually change it back to the actual title you want.

LMS integration is crucial so we hope the tech team can treat these issues with a higher priority.

For a Canvas discussions assignment with Panopto video, students couldn't see a peer's video. I was able to trace the video. It was uploaded to the Master course Panopto folder instead of the course copy for the term.

It’s common that students accidentally choose the wrong assignment folder for uploading their video assignments. Often, they choose what's at the top for course selection, without don’t scroll down to find their course.

What’s puzzling:

The student had the option to upload to a Master course.

The student is not enrolled in the Master course.

The question is, why did students have permission to upload to the Master where they are NOT enrolled in?

Could the loophole be in how the course is copied?

I have an instructor who has deployed multiple Panopto videos in her Blackboard course content areas utilizing the Panopto Quiz (LTI) tool. In the quizzes themselves (in Panopto), they have enabled multiple attempts for student users. However, in the corresponding Blackboard Grade Center columns, the only score being recorded is from the first attempt. No overwrite is taking place following a second attempt, even if the second attempt score is higher. Is this normal behavior for the Blackboard LMS integration?

Some of the student scores get registered in the gradebook, but many do not, and I was wondering what this was? They are all accessing the video + quiz from the same place, and the assignment is set up correctly. It is working for some of the students re. the connection to the gradebook reporting, but not others. I have to go into Settings for the video, access the quiz results, and then copy them over manually from there to the gradebook. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Keith Gumery

Temple University

Hi everyone,

We are working with support through a change that happened with the Jan 8 change (we think?) that led to our Course Copy getting turned off in the identity provider settings.

As a result of this, we're moving up our plans to enable and test Course Copy v2 in our production environment. I did a brief write-up this morning working through the options. Here is what I came to and shared out with our campus team:

======================================================

Recommendation

I’m inclined to recommend the following:

Continue leaving “copy Zoom” and “copy Scheduled Recording” to FALSE

Keep auto provisioning to TRUE

Enable “Manual Copy”

I would then recommend that we:

Create a list of testing questions. I have some.

Update KB documentation accordingly. I’ll personally oversee what goes into services.dartmouth.edu in consultation with Tammie and Oleg.

Test our own use cases across respective areas and report our observations, issues, and concerns.

My rationale:

I feel this way because we ultimately need to test this in production to actually understand how it behaves.

Manual at first glance gives us the most combination of expected behaviors and control.

Can turn that on first and test (and document).

If we like it, leave it on.

If it doesn’t work – we can then do “Auto”

Seems fairly low risk because people don’t realize that you can copy in Panopto to begin with. If they’re linking with deep linking it already works.

I’ve heard zero complaints from anyone about this.

My Analysis of The Options

I updated my analysis to include what I’ve learned from support and others. We ended up picking "Manual" for the time being.

Auto CCv2

Benefits

If performed correctly, it happens automatically.

Creates a Panopto folder of materials for the course from the past course folder.

Auto excludes the option to copy zoom recordings and scheduled recordings.

Best from a compliance standpoint.

Updates deep links to new reference copies (if in that source course folder)

Updates all sessions found in original course folder to be reference copies

Drawbacks:

Risk of Canvas Course Copy interfering

Which course does it pair?

What happens if multiple imports are logged?

Happens mysteriously in the background as soon as they click through the Panopto Video link on the left nav in Canvas.

Would need to disable auto provisioning of folders to work.

Questions

Which “copy” does it pick if someone has imported from multiple courses in the Canvas Course Copy?

Manual CCv2

Benefits

User controls when and how the course copy occurs.

Doesn’t impact accessibility of existing deep links. Links are updated to new reference copy upon the copy operation. - need to verify

See below. Will still test

We can keep Auto Provision Folders set to TRUE

Updates all “copies” (found in original course folder) to be reference copies

Unsure

Users are prompted to include Zoom and Scheduled Recordings in settings.

Not sure if this is good or bad. Might help with edge cases.

Someone might choose to just check off all of the options

Questions

Do deep links update to new reference copies? Docs are unclear

If outside the course folder, they do not.

CC v1 (past default)

In my mind this is a non-starter.

Hi all. Any help is appreciated. I created a Canvas shell for our Writing Center, and I embedded Panopto videos in some of the modules. I have set Canvas in such a way that the entire campus community can access the shell, but when students or colleagues click on the videos, they are not allowed access. Is there some setting to the videos I am missing that will allow anyone who can get into the Canvas shell to also watch the videos and take the quizzes?

How much of a pain is it if you do?

Do you have sub-account provisioning?

Oh and how often do you run the bulk processing of course creations in Panopto? How have you systematized that in your environment?

I realized that when you do a course copy and the Panopto embedded video (via the RCE) is the only thing on the page, it doesn't get copied over. I saw this when it was the only thing on the syllabus page and after a Course Copy, you couldn't bring over the previous syllabus contents.

Not sure if this is a bug or an expected behavior but thought I would mention it.
