Set automatic open and close dates on assignment folders

Hello,

It would be great if assignment folders could be given a start and close date, much like session availability. Ideally, being able to queue them so that when one ends another can open immediately.

E.g. 'My Assignment folder 1' opens on 4th Jan at 00:00 and closes on the 11th Jan at 12:00. Then at 11th Jan 12:01 'My Assignment Folder 1 (late and extended deadlines)' opens.

This would solve a problem we've been having where an assignment folder needs to remain in place past an assignment deadline (for other learners with deadline extensions/late submissions) but students can't make changes to the videos already submitted post deadline. As you can imagine we have large numbers of assignments closing at the same time, so doing this manually at the exact deadline would be practically impossible.

Kind Regards,

Al

  • Currently, academics must manually close the video assignment folders when the assignment deadline passes to prevent students from making changes or adding new submissions. This requires academics to be available at the exact deadline time, which can be challenging if they are teaching, in meetings, or otherwise engaged.

I would like to propose introducing a feature that allows academics to schedule the closure of assignment folders in advance. This would enable them to set a specific date and time for the folder to automatically close. This feature would ensure a seamless and consistent process for managing assignment deadlines, reduce administrative burden, and mitigate the risk of students modifying submissions after the deadline.
