3D & Stereoscopic Video Feature Requests
DELTA is heavily invested in the development of XR (virtual and augmented reality) and immersive learning content. We currently use YouTube and Vimeo as a fall-back delivery platform for 360 video content distribution. We would like to explore further development of Panopto as a 360 VR content delivery platform. Currently, we were able to test web playback with 360 mono content which looked very good. However we would like to look into the following feature requests or functionality:
1. Ability to upload / host both monoscopic OR stereoscopic (top-bottom) 360 media
2. Ability to recognize 360 media via WebXR or VR browser for compatibility with Meta Quest and/or Pico Neo VR headsets
3. It may be possible to use the API to send a video stream to a WebXR app or control
4. Further exploration of streaming live 360 video via Panopto (in support of virtual field trips)
5. Direct integration of closed captioning within 360 video
Internal FR #'s are listed below.
- FR-6391: 3D VR support
- FR-6392: Stereoscopic (S3D)
- FR-6400: Ability to upload / host both monoscopic OR stereoscopic (top-bottom) 360 media
- FR-6401: 360 media compatibility with Meta Quest and/or Pico Neo VR headsets
- FR-6402: API capability to send a video stream to a WebXR app or controller
- FR-6403: Webcast 360 video via Panopto
- FR-6404: Closed captioning within 360 video
Comments
+1 - We've also got a few departments that are starting to develop content for XR learning experiences. We've had one area which has been using mono 360 video in Panopto for a few years now and they are happy enough with that that they've continued to develop content in that way. I think Captions are #1, 3D VR and Stereoscopic support along with some general headset support are the #2, then the rest are nice to have and would allow us to do more with the platform, but would be great to be included in an overhaul of the feature.
