Notification of an issue affecting Panopto/Blackboard Assignment Grading System

Hello - We want to inform you about an issue affecting Blackboard Gradebook Reporting, specifically for customers using the LTI 1.3 version of the integration.
What is the issue?
Since Blackboard’s latest release (on 2025-04-03), calls to Blackboard LTI assignment and grade services to Panopto have been failing, leading to grades for both quizzes and video progress not being reported correctly to the Blackboard Gradebook.
Which versions of Panopto are affected?
This issue affects Panopto Cloud and On-Premise customers using the Blackboard LTI 1.3 version of the integration. The issue only manifests when making use of Gradebook Integration functionality.
How do I tell if this affects me?
If your institution actively uses the Blackboard Gradebook Integration functionality and configures your integration to use the LTI 1.3, then this issue will present itself.
To confirm if your integration is set to use LTI 1.3, you can navigate to your “Identity Provider” page in Panopto as an admin, locate your Blackboard provider, and confirm that the following values are populated:
- LTI 1.3 Client Identifier, LTI 1.3 Issuer, LTI 1.3 Authorization URL, LTI 1.3 Token URL, LTI 1.3 JSON Web Key Set URL.
- If you require further confirmation, please raise a case with Panopto Support.
How do I mitigate the issue?
There is currently no available mitigation for this issue. As part of the investigation, the Panopto team will confirm if it is possible to resubmit the scores to Gradebook once this issue is resolved.
When will this be resolved?
There is no current ETA for a resolution to the issue. The Panopto Team is actively working with the Blackboard team to identify the root cause and collaborate on the fastest path to remediation. The Panopto team will update this no later than 2024-04-15.
