Turn of automatic captions on an entire folder. Not only for new videos but for all current session

I don’t believe this feature has been requested before, at least not as far as I can see.

We have had some instructors who don’t like that automatic captions are always turned on. Even when you turn them off, they come back after refreshing. Instead of removing captions from one session at a time, it would be more efficient to remove them at the folder level.

    Hey, Ahmed!

Thanks for the suggestion! I have a few questions to make sure we're on the same page about this feature.

First, when ASR (automatic captions) is turned off in a folder, that setting should remain even after refreshing the page. If not, please create a support ticket so we can investigate this further.

Second, the default for adding these captions can be changed at a site level. Search for the setting Captioning - Enable Automatic Machine Captioning Provider, and then change this to either Disabled (to remove ASR entirely) or Enabled (to have ASR available, but not on by default). Do note that this will only affect folders created after changing this setting. Any existing folders will still need to be changed manually.

Finally, based on the last line you wrote, this request seems more geared toward deleting existing captions for all videos in a folder. Is that true?

  • Hi Brianna!

In tandem with this post, I created a support ticket. Even though all the correct settings in the admin interface were set to false, the automatic captions were still showing up, even after refreshing the page. They informed me that “we do not have an ETA for a fix at this time. Once a fix for this issue has been released, it will be published to our Release Notes forum.”

The Captioning – Enable Automatic Machine Captioning Provider setting is already set to Disabled, and I believe this only affects new folders, not existing ones.

What I was referring to was a feature that would allow you to apply a setting to an entire folder so that all videos, including those already in the folder, would have their captions removed automatically, instead of having to remove captions from each video individually. I hope this made sense.
