Choose language when submitting a caption request
Eric Silva
Tyro
Institutions using Panopto with the 3Play Media captioning integration are currently unable to request Spanish captions for Spanish-language videos directly within Panopto. Caption requests initiated through Panopto only support English, requiring users to manually download videos and upload them to 3Play Media to request Spanish captions.
With Title II accessibility requirements taking effect in April 2026, support for efficient captioning workflows for non-English instructional content is increasingly important.
Requested Enhancement
Update the Panopto/3Play Media integration to allow users to:
- Select Spanish (and other supported languages) when requesting captions directly within Panopto
- Submit Spanish-language videos for captioning without requiring manual download and re-upload

Hey Eric!
This can currently be done by entering the desired language in the Service Name field when setting up a new caption service (e.g., Service Name: Spanish Captions). Though this will mean that all caption requests from this provider will be processed in the chosen language, which may not be ideal.
That said, I agree that this workflow is neither very intuitive nor convenient. Since this isn't limited to just 3Play, I updated the title of this request to include all caption requests.
I've passed this along to our team to consider how we can improve the process for requesting captions for non-English videos.
Thank you again for the great suggestion!
