Assign ownership of scheduled recordings when scheduling courses

I manually create scheduled recordings on my remote recorders (Epiphan Pearl 2's) for the semester. When I do so, I become the owner of videos.

Where there has become a problem is when faculty decide to restrict access to insure attendance to classes. Consequently, I get a request from a student who wants to access a video. The only way I have found to change this is to individually edit each recording and change ownership to the faculty for that particular course. This can be a long process.

This particularly became an issue after the Northeast snow storm this past weekend that caused cancellation of classes when faculty wanted to use videos from a prior semester, so shared that link, not realizing even with access for students, that folder is restricted to just that semester's course list. I was inundated yesterday with email requests for access to videos from courses with 200 - 300 students. I did inform the faculty about copying the video over to the current semester for access, but the link had already gone out to students, so the requests kept on pouring in yesterday to my email.

I would really like a way to assign ownership to the creator team rather than to the person who created the scheduled recording. I looked into the Panopto Scheduling Tool, but there is no way to change ownership with that. So that's why I'm asking to have this ability, for my own sanity if not for others who run into the same problems.

Thanks,

Elaine

  • My understanding is that this is planned to roll out with the bulk scheduling improvements to the UI and API, whenever that lands.

  • Well, that's good news. Thanks, Mike!
