Allow Admins to Limit Storage Capacity of My Folder
I would like for Personal Folders "My Folders" to be a place that is safe from automatic retention policies, but I don't want users to abuse that loophole by moving everything into their My Folder. So it would be good if I could set a maximum capacity (account-wide) for the My Folder
Provide output format UHD (currently only up to 1080p)
Hi all,
currently it is not possible to upload videos in UHD (2160p) and let viewers watch them in UHD quality. The output is 1080p maximum.
However Panopto Capture offers to record (video and/or slides) in UHD - see also
- which does not really make sense, if the output format is limited to 1080p.Especially for blackboard recordings we would like to allow for UHD recordings and output. I know it is also a question of data volume, but for specific recording scenarios, this would help students.

Ability to use secondary audio tracks in the editor
Currently, Panopto only allows audio recording on the primary track. In our lecture capture, our faculty use a lavalier microphone. I monitor our captures and if they do not turn on the mic and they are in a room with ceiling mics, I remotely turn those on rather than have someone run to the room to remind them to wear and turn on the mic.
I record on Epiphan Pearl2s, which in their latest firmware (4.24.1) allows for audio recording on the secondary tracks. It would be great if in my recording, I could split my audio from the DSP in the classroom so that the lavalier goes to the primary track, but I can record the ceiling microphones to the secondary chalkboard shot. In the instance where no lav was turned on (or the batteries died) it would be great to be able to take the ceiling mic audio from the secondary track to use as a backup - and make my captures truly automated, rather than monitoring all captures at the start, that a creator or admin could switch audio tracks from the secondary to primary for playback.
I would also like the ability to upload an audio track without having to marry it to the primary track as well to replace poor audio or be able to do some outside tweaking of the existing track and restore it again.
Would this be of interest to other users?
Detect and automatically delete black video
We have eight rooms where we include two content sources in addition to the camera in the recording session. We use Epiphan recorders for these recordings. In these rooms, it is possible to project two content sources next to each other. It regularly happens that teachers have enough with one content source, so one source of black video is recorded by the Epiphan recorder. Teachers should remove this unused content source afterwards in the editor in the overview of the different streams. It would be nice if Panopto offered a possibility to automatically detect and remove black video.
More quizzing question type choices
I’m writing to request expansion of available question types in Quizzes.
Currently, Panopto offers a limited selection of interactive question formats, which restricts the ways educators and trainers can engage learners. In contrast, many competitors provide a broader and more dynamic range of question types that significantly boost learner engagement, interactivity, and retention.
- Additional question types requested:
- Ordered list
- Short answer
- Drag-and-drop
- Matching pairs
- Hotspot selection
Expanding Panopto’s interactive question offerings would improve the learning experience. These features are increasingly expected by users seeking engaging and pedagogically sound video content.
Remote recorder API
Hi,
We are looking at using the Panopto remote recorders API to schedule recordings for users. One drawback to this is that users would not be able to select what inputs they want on their recordings.
We know that if a user schedules a recording through the Panopto website, they can select different templates for a given remote recorder that could have different selected input sources. So we could have preset on any remote recorder say a template for audio and PowerPoint and another for audio, video and PowerPoint, etc.
With that in mind, we would like a Panopto API command that would allow us to change a remote recorder's template.
Thanks
Louis
Caption and audio description reports
We want to be able to track the number of recordings with captions and audio descriptions and see how it changes over time. The API/report should include the usual recordings info (creator, recording identifier, recording length, creation date, edited date…) and origin of the captions: vendor manual captioning, vendor AI captioning, manual captioning, auto captioning, or uploaded captions. We also want to know if the captions have been edited and see which recordings have audio descriptions (AD) and the source of the AD.
Ensuring the app accurately reflects the user's authentication status
Currently, if a user was logged in, but that session/token is invalidated for some reason, the application doesn't currently highlight that state to the user. It would provide a much better experience if the app both updated to show the actual current state (don't show their username, flag that you are recording offline, etc.), as well as provide a UI that will guide the user to getting logged in again.
REST API to archive content and retrieve content that has been archived
As it currently stands we can do lots of things with the API in terms of moving content, getting IDs deleting content etc, which is incredibly powerful and useful for our workflows and allows us to manage our content easily.
However, the API is not able to do anything with archived content. The API treats the archived video as invisible, and we cannot automate archiving without using a retention policy. We cannot unarchive at appropriate moments, and we cannot delete content that has been archived, even if we have a legal obligation to do so (without doing it per video in the UI or having a folder policy).
We believe that archived video should just show the same as normal video, but without a playback url and an archived:true parameter.
Make a "Display All" option instead of "show more" option when accessing subfolders
Instead of having to click on the "show more" option, have an option that will display all subfolders. We have had a lot of students say they don't see the week 15 folder, but in fact they did not see the "show more" option. The "display all" should be a setting instructors can set, so this will not be a factor.
