Set automatic open and close dates on assignment folders
Hello,
It would be great if assignment folders could be given a start and close date, much like session availability. Ideally, being able to queue them so that when one ends another can open immediately.
E.g. 'My Assignment folder 1' opens on 4th Jan at 00:00 and closes on the 11th Jan at 12:00. Then at 11th Jan 12:01 'My Assignment Folder 1 (late and extended deadlines)' opens.
This would solve a problem we've been having where an assignment folder needs to remain in place past an assignment deadline (for other learners with deadline extensions/late submissions) but students can't make changes to the videos already submitted post deadline. As you can imagine we have large numbers of assignments closing at the same time, so doing this manually at the exact deadline would be practically impossible.
Kind Regards,
Al

Dedicated caption editors
Good morning,
Is there a way to assign a role to a user which allows them to edit the ASR captions on a video without having the capacity to change anything else on that video?
If not, can I suggest this role be considered as a feature request?
Kind regards,
Richard
Allow functionality to edit the duration of PowerPoint slides
Panopto allows you to determine when a PowerPoint slide is available as a source, but does not allow you to set an end time. This functionality would be instrumental in allowing more flexibility in when slides appear/disappear, and allow for only limited sections to have PowerPoint slides when needed.
Submit a pull request to the OBS GitHub to add Panopto as a streaming service
Hello,
I'm just starting out with Panopto but I notice that you recommended OBS in the RTMP guide, and already use OBS for MS Streams and YouTube a lot.
The OBS developers will only accept requests for new services to be added from reprisentatives of the company, so I am asking if someone from Panopto could find 10 minutes to add the streaming settings to a PR that would be awesome.
Would save a lot of issues such as enabling b-frames when you shouldn't...
This is the file to edit:
Thanks
Tom
Prompt anonymous users to enter a name for viewer tracking / Video registration method for guests

We are Scheduling webcasts for external customers but need to know who has attended the live webcast or viewed the recording afterwards without them having to sign in. Could there be an option to prompt anonymous users to enter a name that could be used for Stats tracking?
API Integration with Hardware Recorders for Displaying Live Panopto Video Chat (Discussion)
Currently, hardware recorders like Matrox and Epiphan have the ability to display basic recording information on their HDMI output screens. However, we would like to take this a step further by displaying more advanced information, such as live chat from the current streaming sessions in the room on a preview/confidence monitor by the lectern.
Here is a example of our current setup: (all our rooms has one display on or near by the lectern)
Feature Request: API Integration for Displaying Live Panopto Video Chat (Discussion) on Hardware Recorders' Preview Monitor by the Lectern:
Our goal is to integrate Panopto's live video chat (Discussion) with hardware recorders such as Matrox and Epiphan, so that the chat on live sessions can be displayed on a preview monitor by the lectern, which is connected to the recorder's HDMI output. This will allow for more dynamic and interactive classroom sessions, enabling remote students to actively participate and engage with the lecture, stay in touch with the teacher, and enhance interactivity.
To accomplish this, we would like to request the following:
- Update the Panopto partner APIs to include live video chat (Discussion) information linked to the Live session.
- Implement this into the FW on the HW recorders.. Both Matrox and Epiphan has allready been briefed on this, and are willing to implement when the data is available in the API :)
We understand that there might be challenges in implementing this feature, such as the limited number of chat lines that can be displayed at once. However, we believe that overcoming these obstacles will make Panopto a more versatile and inclusive platform for remote students.
We believe that this feature, in combination with Panopto's ongoing efforts to reduce latency from recorder to player, will transform the platform from a static "One to All" experience into a more engaging and interactive tool for remote students. At the very least this will give the Teacher/student a simple solution to just send/recive simple messages, like "TURN ON YOUR MICROPHONE!! ;)
Mockup on how this could look on the screen on the Lectern.
Here is also a full mockup of all the different states that could be shown on the screen before, during and after recording:
Order Pro Captions on Reference Copies
We are reevaluating our current use of Panopto for some online courses and one major sticking point is that reference copies do not currently order/provision captions when they are moved into a folder that automatically orders captions.
This functionality is really critical for us to be successful with Reference Copies. Without, it is so unbelievably difficult to order them manually once you get beyond a layer or two of Reference Copies because you have to walk up the tree one by one.
You should also be able to go into a reference copy and order captions on the original session without needing to traverse up the structure to find the original session first.
Recorder Multiviewer Window
Some of our users are opening multiple browser windows to monitor up to 6 recorders at once.
They don't need to see all of their recorders, just the ones that may be having an issue or if they need to view what is going on in the room.
Would it be possible to have a multiviewer in the remote recorder list that we can assign specific recorders to for monitoring? It would need to show the primary and secondary windows for each recorder.
Default Content Retention Policy for Assignment Folders
Hi all, I believe this exists internally under: FR-4624 - posting here for any further thoughts.
Currently it is not possible to set a global default policy for [assignments] folders. Presently offered are Content Retention options for ‘Default Site Policy’ and ‘Default Personal Folder Policy’.
However, it feels that there should perhaps be a third option that allows a ‘Default [assignments] Folder Policy’ as this retention period is again likely to be a different period of time compared to the Default Site Policy containing non-assignment content.
Manually setting the policy on the folders is of course possible, but on a large scale not feasible and difficult to keep track of.
This should help any institution where they are managing their assessment-based content to align with stipulated retention periods.
Interactive Transcript Support in Embedded Player
We have had a few situations come up where it would be helpful if there was an option to enable an interactive transcript (similar to what is available in the full interactive viewer) below the embedded player.
Here is an example of something similar to what we are after here:
