User controlled captions

Staff have requested that users are able to decide whether to add captions rather than staff. This would mean that if staff haven't been able to add captions themselves, students can switch them on if required (a little like in YouTube)

    Hi Katie,

Panopto's machine captions are up-to 95% accurate (sometimes even higher!), and we recommend enabling these site wide so that students can be in control of turning them on and off as desired. I took a look and noticed that you all currently have this disabled on your site, meaning faculty members have to manually add the captions. Would you be open to enabling this on your site so that the machine captions are automatically added to all of your videos? Please review this documentation and let me know if you have any follow-up questions: https://support.panopto.com/s/article/How-to-Enable-ASR-Captioning-for-Folders

We aren't able to switch on site wide captioning because a significant proportion of our videos are in Welsh. Until the functionality for captioning to recognise languages and use the appropriate language we aren't able to do this.

In case it helps, one of our most recent updates included support for Welsh! This would involve administrators or faculty needing to update the folder settings in which they are recording content in Welsh: https://support.panopto.com/s/article/How-to-Use-Multiple-Language-ASR-Captioning

Thanks - that's exactly the issue as some folders contain both Welsh and English recordings, and there isn't a way of automatically updating the folder settings. Fingers crossed for the auto-detect feature ๐Ÿคž
