Order Pro Captions on Reference Copies

We are reevaluating our current use of Panopto for some online courses and one major sticking point is that reference copies do not currently order/provision captions when they are moved into a folder that automatically orders captions.

This functionality is really critical for us to be successful with Reference Copies. Without, it is so unbelievably difficult to order them manually once you get beyond a layer or two of Reference Copies because you have to walk up the tree one by one.

You should also be able to go into a reference copy and order captions on the original session without needing to traverse up the structure to find the original session first.

  • With the new regulations coming into play around the Title II ruling, we are needing to have media that is currently in use be captioned. Currently there is no reliable way to have course media that is copied forward using the Course Copy v2 (or otherwise), and being able to apply captions (be it professional or ASR) in this way would go a long way toward that fast approaching need.

This is absolutely essential. Our currently captioning is requested by people in our student accessibility services office who usually get creator access to the course folder that has a student with accommodations enrolled. If the original of a video is in the course folder it is not an issue, but if it is a copy they often don't have access to the source folder (which can sometimes be many generations of the video back). This creates a huge headache for us as admins because we have to dig back to the original to request captions for them when it should be much more straightforward.
