Variable Speed Playback

When variable speed playback has been disabled there is no way for a viewer to know.
The speed options are not greyed out and it looks like you can still choose a different speed.
Is it possible to the have the speed options greyed out, completely removed or have some other way of indicating this option has been disabled?
