Grey out or hide Variable Speed Playback button when it is disabled

When variable speed playback has been disabled there is no way for a viewer to know.
The speed options are not greyed out and it looks like you can still choose a different speed.
Is it possible to the have the speed options greyed out, completely removed or have some other way of indicating this option has been disabled?

If the button appears to function, visually or otherwise, but does not, then this may be an accessibility/usability issue. I'm upvoting for this reason.
