Reuse of Streaming Key to make streaming sports easier
We make extensive use of Panopto's RTMP streaming functionality for our college's sports teams streaming. It would be much easier if a separate entry did not have to be made for each game.
In Ensemble Video, our previous video management system, we could make one entry for an entire season of a given sport. For each game, the same stream key was used. The title of each game was adjusted to include the start date/time of the stream. For example, a season of softball might be created with a name of "Softball 2025" and an individual game would have the auto generated name of "Softball 2025 - 05/08/2025 15:03:30"
This is also useful if for some reason the stream is stopped. There would be multiple entries with different start times. Those could be combined into one video to get a nearly complete game.
With the way Panopto operates now, I have to create extra entries for each sport season so that there is a method to continue streaming if the original stream is interrupted for more than 15 minutes. I know that duration is configurable, but 15 minutes seems like a reasonable period to wait when everything worked like it should have to convert to an on demand video.
I spend a great deal of time before the beginning of each sport's season creating all the entries in Panopto and copying stream keys into the streaming software. Being able to have one stream key per season would save much time.
