What is the impact of the Panopto Custom Caption Dictionary?
in General Q&A
I am attempting to implement the Panopto custom caption dictionary in a test environment of Panopto to see what it effect it has. I have followed the instructions and have a practice video with caption errors, but my question is what does the dictionary do?! It doesn't fix the errors, neither does it make suggestions to fix the errors when you try and edit the captions. Both options I would think would be reasonable for implementing a custom dictionary.
It would be great to hear from someone who's (successfully!) used this relatively new feature of Panopto as at the moment it feels like I'm missing something.

For those who may have, or are, experiencing this issue, it's likely because you're viewing previously created captions. The new dictionary will not overwrite all existing captions on your videos, only new videos created. Additionally, the dictionary is applied per caption service. For example, if you apply the dictionary to the Automatic Machine Captions (ASR) provider, only videos with those captions enabled will use your updated dictionary.
Some other considerations:
For example, if the first row is "en | yinz | You unz | Yuhnz", and then in a later row you add "en | yinz | You is | yuh iss", the "You unz" row will be applied.
If none of that applies to your situation, create a Support ticket so we can do a deeper investigation.
