Assigning Recorder Administrator Permissions

Currently, in Panopto recorder administrator permissions have to be assigned by searching for and adding each recorder one by one. For organisations that have 300+ recorders this is very time-consuming. Ideally, there would be a way to grant access to all recorders for staff responsible for recorder configuration and maintenance. Currently, this functionality isn't available but it would save a lot of time and changes to the recorder administrator, allowing site-wide permissions to be assigned for all of them, would also make it easier for when new recorders are added.

  • Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!

I have a group of technicians who install and maintain our remote recorders. Every time they add or swap out a RR I have to go into the access settings for that machine and give them admin access. They all have the "Remote Recorder Admin" role in Panopto, but I still have to give them access to each machine. It would be so much better if people assigned that role could see and administer the all of the site's RRs the way I see and administer them as a site admin.

  • It's good to hear that other people are in the same situation! When we first started using Panopto we expected that the recorder admin role is similar to the site admin one like you mention as well. Managing recorder access in this way is very time-consuming.
