Display Elapsed Recording Time During PowerPoint Presentations

When recording a PowerPoint presentation using Panopto Desktop, there is no visible timer to show how long you have been speaking. This can be a problem for students recording assessed presentations, particularly when there is a strict time limit.

At present, the only way to check the recording duration is to pause the recording, which is disruptive. Also, leaving PowerPoint's slideshow does not automatically stop the Panopto recording, so the overall recording can be longer than the actual presentation.

It would be really useful to have a small elapsed-time display visible while recording, including when PowerPoint is in slideshow mode. Ideally, this could appear unobtrusively in the corner of the screen, similar to the timer in Microsoft Teams.

For example: Presentation elapsed time: 09:30

It would also be helpful to distinguish between the time spent presenting and the total recording time, as these aren't necessarily the same; this would make it much easier for students to keep track of their presentation length and avoid exceeding assessment time limits.
