I am trying to learn how to do screencast tutorials similar to the way they're done on Kahn Academy. Currently using smoothdraw 4, and don't know how to capture ONLY what i'm drawing or writing. In my preliminary attempts, Panopto captures everything on the screen which includes the Smoothdraw user interface, the tool bars, etc. I just want the students to see what i am writing and drawing without all the rest of it which is distracting. So how can I achieve this? How do I limit the screen capture to just what i want the students to see?

You can use the Panopto Capture (BETA) to capture a program window and not the entire screen. However, there is no an option to capture just a selected REGION of the screen.
This is a request many users has sent to Panopto! Unfortunately, they have not done it yet. There are several upgrades they need to make that should be a priority for them:
- Improvements in the editor - add overlays (text, pictures, objects), improve caption editor, better quizz management, etc.
- Improvements to the capture program - capture partial screen objects, zoom capability, tray icon with visual indicators, upgrade interface, etc,
- Improvements to the user portal web interface - setting to show/hide Everything link, better and easier department mgmt, etc.
- Improvement to web player - ability to add ppt files, quick PIP, etc.
- Add the HEVC codec used by newer phones
Hopefully, they are working in these upgrades -- but current pandemic operation mode may slow down development.

Thanks. Yes, I was worried that maybe this could not be done in Panopto. I don't know if our system allows access to this beta version you mention, but i'll explore it. I appreciate your response.
