Access to Source/Upload Files

The support team is always endlessly helpful in situations where a session fails to process, or if something else happens, however, it would be very helpful in a few situations if we were able to access the source files as uploaded.

This would both be helpful in situations where something needs to be encoded again manually or in situations where we need that source media back out of Panopto. I think as more features are added to Panopto when it comes to interactivity/more in-depth editing tools, being able to pull that unedited media out, edit offline, then reupload is going to be critical.

I thought there had been a feature request for this some time ago, but I couldn't find one in searching so I figured I'd make another.

  • Do you not have a local copy on the remote recorder? It's one of the reasons why I use Epiphan Pearls to have a local recording for external editing for OpenCourseWare and other use cases.

But when people are using the Panopto App, I do think it would be good to be able to download all of the source files in a recording, rather than to jump hoops through the podcast option, which is cumbersome at best. Having the ability to download all source files at best quality would be appreciated.

  • If it is caught right away, potentially, but that's not a reliable solution in my case - many of these spaces are just used too much so content is cleaned up locally in short order as the devices run out of space. Most of our recordings also happen ad-hoc on either a podium PC or on a users individual workstation. Getting into these busy spaces or connected to a workstation is always a challenge which would be entirely solved if we could just download files as uploaded. The files are there, we just need access to them.
