Bulk Restore Ability for Creators

I would like to Feature Request the ability for Creators to be able to go to the Archive and Restore their content in bulk.

It seems odd to us that Creators cannot do this now. We're doing a cleanup of our Archive, and we have a lot of instructors asking why they have to do things one at a time instead of being able to restore in bulk like admins can. Some of the instructions in the documentation make it seem like Creators should be able to do this.

Please consider giving Creators the ability to bulk restore videos they Create from the archive.

    Hey Kevin,

    Creators should already have the ability to access and bulk restore from the Archive (see section 4 here). They should also be able to bulk restore from their folder by toggling the archive view while in that folder.

    To restore more than one video at a time, hover over the video's thumbnail, and then click on the white checkbox on the top-left. Do this for all of the videos you want to restore, and then click the restore option at the top of the page.

    If your Creators are not able to do this, I recommend verifying that they do, in fact, have Creator access and that the Archive is enabled for your site (System > Settings > Features - Archive). It's also worth noting that using the full Archive view (System > Archive) will be much quicker than opening each folder's archive page. That may be where some of the slowdowns are happening for Creators.

    If none of that or the previously linked article helps, I recommend putting in a Support ticket so our team can dig deeper into the issue.

    Hi Brianna

    I sent 2 faculty asking about this the Section 4 webpage you had above and they both said they couldn't do it, so I'm not sure what is happening now.

    When I go System > Settings, I do not see a Feature - Archive option when I search All Settings, but we do have a large archive of videos. Where would I find it in settings? Are you saying this setting is what allows instructors to bulk restore videos?

    Hey Kevin,

    I took a quick look at your Panopto site and verified that all the appropriate settings are enabled, so there may be an issue with user permissions or a limitation specific to your site.

    A specific resolution would require information that shouldn't be shared in a public forum. I recommend putting in a Support ticket. Be sure to include the names of the specific users you were just working with on this issue, as well as what those users can see (are they able to restore one video at a time? If so, how do they do that? Or do they not have access to restoration at all?). If possible, a video from the faculty member showing what they see would reduce ambiguity about where the problem lies.

  • @Kevin Hartman I don't know if it is possible to edit a feature request, but I would suggest we change this request and ask that creators be giving the ability to bulk restore from within a folder. Based on case 01015773 this functionality does not exist.

    Creators are able to bulk restore if they go to: System > Archive > search for a folder. That workflow is not intuitive. It's hard enough getting people used to using functions like Browse, and now I have to tell them that bulk restoring involves going into the System menu which is practically hidden at the bottom of the left-side menu. {sigh}

  • @Panopto is it possible to update the feature request to allow Creators to bulk restore content at a folder level instead of having to go to the Archive under the system menu? It would make much more sense for them and be easier. Beth has been given FR-4975 for this.
