Re: Capture a region of an screen

Hi Carlos - Thanks for posting! We are hoping to add this in the first half of next year. We will keep you posted!"
That would have been the first 1/2 of 2019...
More than 4 years later we're now halfway through 2023 and we still can't do this.
The desktop recording clients feel abandoned.
Re: Download transcript as document
An update on this feature request would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Capture a region of an screen
@Chaz Barbour you are correct! There are so many feature requests that have fallen through the cracks!!! Hopefully, they will get working on them soon. After all, with the new "licensing model," Panopto is jumping to the list of "most" expensive" software on our campus!!!! They should be working hard in adding and providing value to their customers! Enough said.
Re: Ability to Emulate User Accounts for Troubleshooting (masquerade / impersonate / log in as)
We find that "becoming" the student in Canvas is not reliable when testing Panopto, Instead, we have created faculty, student, and staff "test accounts" (we use in Canvas and all our apps). The test accounts are 100% reliable.
Re: Exclude Admins from viewing analytics
Just adding a comment since this item was updated to "Tracking". If implemented, it would be very important for us to still be able to audit views made by an admin as well as end users. Maybe this could be implemented as a checkbox in the analytics UI that will exclude support staff. I don't know how it would best fit to name this option, maybe a string that could be set at the site level so each campus can name it how they describe their support staff locally?
Re: Exclude Admins from viewing analytics
I agree 100% on this. Editing the CSVs to exclude viewers in order not to skew data is time consuming. I've had to do this many times.
Perhaps an "exclusion" user group can be created for listing. This list could be edited as needed.
- admins
- faculty enrolled in course
- instructional designers
- IT support
- Panopto support
- Media Services
Re: Video feedback
Panopto actually allows users to rate videos using 1-5 stars. (Settings>Features - Viewer - Rating)
I'm not sure the benefits of a more simple system would justify the effort involved in creating your own system.
Re: Full Screen Slides
Wait, so you're saying if you capture slides instead of screen as a secondary source, and they playback the recording in the web viewer, you can't make the slides full screen? I've never noticed that before.
EDIT: Had to check that out for myself and wow, that's just odd.
Re: Auto Cross-post videos to 2 (or more?) different Folders.
Yes. This is very needed.
When I've wanted to do this, I have to do a lousy work-around.
- I send them to a location other than one of the course's LTI folders (usually one I create in the instructor's personal folder).
- Then I add a link to the Panopto folder as a tool in both courses.
- Then I either add the LTI groups to the folder or set permissions to "Your Organization (unlisted) Anyone at your org who has the link". (I leave that up to the instructor.)
It stinks, but it beats telling the instructor to create a reference copy after every class.
