Processing Management options for Creators

Hi,

It would be really helpful to grant Creator or other roles the ability to act on Processing Management options. This option is useful for generating subtitles for videos coming from a folder set in a language different from the target one.

    Hi @Marco Simeoni,

    If you are a site-level Admin for your organization's Panopto site, you can adjust a System Role's permissions, or create a new custom role, that allows certain users to be able to request translations and/or captions from any provider for their content.

    To learn how to adjust a System Role, such as the Creator role, to have this level of access, you can follow the steps in How to Create a Custom User Role: Adjust a System Role. It is important to note that adjusting the System-wide Creator role will give every person with Creator-level access at your organization the ability to request translations and/or captions from any provider for their content.

    To only provide certain Creators with the ability to request translations/captions for their content, you can follow the instructions in How to Create a Custom User Role: Create a New Custom Role, make a copy of the system role that you want to customize, update it to include the expanded permissions, and then assign the role as needed.

    Hi Cait,

    Thank you for your reponse.

    The problem is actually a bit different. If a recording in one language (Italian) is located in a folder with the language setting set to Italian, it is possible to generate automatic subtitles in Italian. However, if a video in English is initially located in a folder set to Italian, it is not possible to generate automatic subtitles in English. One of the following two actions must be taken:

    • either change the language setting of the folder from Italian to English;
    • or move the video to a folder with the language setting set to English.

    Once one of the two operations above is completed, it is strictly necessary to start the Processing Management from the video settings. This operation can only be done by the admin. I was wondering if it is possible to enable creators to do this as well.

    Hi @Marco Simeoni,

    If a video in English is in a folder that is set to Italian, any one with Creator-level (or above) access to the video or folder should be able to reprocess the automatic captioning so that it matches the language spoken in the video. The steps for this process are detailed in our article, How to Reprocess Automatic Captioning to a Different Language.

    For Creators to be able to reprocess the Automatic Machine Captions, you will need to expand the 'System' menu on your Panopto site, navigate to 'Caption & Translation Services,' and then, under 'Automatic Machine Captions,' select the checkbox next to 'Allow any Creator to request this service level.':

    Best wishes,
