Problem with playback freezing in Chrome and Edge but not in Safari or Firefox

Users are reporting (including me) that playback of videos from the Panopto website (not embedded in VLE) are freezing inexplicably to the point where they are unusable. These videos do have some edits on the timeline but the points of freezing do not correspond to the timecodes of the edits. Having tested one video I created recently, it freezes in Chrome (Mac) and Edge (Mac) but not for Safari (Mac) or Firefox (Mac). I am on MacOS 14.6.1 and all the desktop clients are up-to-date. I've been using edited Panopto videos at our institution for years and only since the summer have we begun to experience playback issues like this.
