September 2026 Release Notes

This update will be applied after business hours on Friday, September 4th.

The following features have been improved:

  • The limit on custom dictionaries has been increased to 10,000 (previously 1,000). Note that there is still a 5 MB limit per uploaded file.
  • All references to "$" in the Accessibility pages have been changed to "Credits" to more accurately represent the cost of services across all regions.
  • Added a new "3rd Party ASR" caption type. Now, when external vendors provide automatic captions, we will refer to them as "3rd Party ASR". This distinguishes automatic captions from human-reviewed/made captions, even from external sources. If external automatic captions are ever changed to human-reviewed/made, we will label the captions simply as "3rd Party". This will apply retroactively to any automated captions already provided by vendors.

The following bug has been resolved:

  • The Content Retention settings page failed to load and was completely inaccessible because the page tried to render before its retention configuration data had loaded.

    The following feature has been improved:

    • When using the "+ Add Folder" option to add a new subfolder, the full folder creation window now opens. This lets you set sharing permissions instantly, rather than adjusting them manually after creating the subfolder.

    The following bug has been resolved:

    • Fixed an issue where MS Teams recordings could take hours to be imported when a large number of meetings were recorded in a short period of time. All pending recordings are now queued as soon as they're available (up to the existing per-cycle limit).

    This update will be applied after business hours on Thursday, September 17th.

    The following feature has been improved:

    • When filtering a folder or results by date, you can now manually enter dates in addition to selecting dates on the calendar.

    The following bugs have been resolved:

    • Users can now order captions from third-party providers (e.g., 3Play Media, Verbit) while ASR is still processing on that video. Previously, the entire transcription UI was disabled during ASR processing, which incorrectly prevented all caption requests.
    • The "Order Translation" option for videos now accurately states that no translation services are configured when applicable. Previously, it defaulted to a generic message saying that no caption credits are available when translation services were not yet configured.
    • The "Open Panopto" button and "Click here for other download options" link in the Create menu's Panopto for Mac section are now keyboard accessible. Screen readers also announce each element's role and name.

    Product Additions: New Language
    We’ve added Greek as an available language for your Panopto site. It can be enabled at a folder or site level:

    • Folder Level: In the Folder's settings menu, on the Settings tab, change the Content Language to your desired language.
    • Site Level: Contact the Panopto Support Team to change your site's default language.

    Greek will be available for ASR captions, and searching will yield results from both ASR captions and on-screen text (OCR). Any existing captions can also be translated into Greek, just like any other translation service. Our support article for using multiple languages for captions can be reviewed here.

    Product Improvements

    • Create Playlist and Create Folder dialogs now announce their name to screen readers on open, so users immediately know what dialog they're in. (WCAG Reference: 4.1.2)
