Re: Pause Button That Pauses the Recording Instead of Recording an Edited-Out Section in the Background
It is a feature that we would very much hate to see removed, and which will seriously degrade the product in our eyes. It has saved our teachers many times when they have pressed pause and forgotten to unpause. Our teachers are incredibly happy with it, and have gotten used to non-destructive recording and editing.
If you are having a confidential conversation, why don't you just stop the recording and continue recording when you are ready:
Re: Split primary audio and video / Edit out Primary Stream but keep audio and secondary
Good morning,
I would be interesting to be able to separate the primary audio from the primary video. This way if there is any error on the primary video, the video bit with the error could be replaced but keeping the audio has is.
The work around for this is download the podcast mp3, then uploaded to your video has a primary source, then you need to download the mp4 and then upload it has secondary source.... should be a click of a button.
Another request would be to add images had primary or secondary sources, and to be able to say show this image for x amount of seconds. This way for example a slide captures has video could be hidden by an image, and the editor could say for how long, instead of using a third party software as a work around like create a ppt file, save it has mp4 say the time you need then add it to panopto etc... and if we do this we still loose the audio that is attached to the primary video.
Thank you
Re: Option for viewers to download captions / transcript
Thank you for releasing the global setting for downloadable transcripts. We have had instructors in the past ask for downloadable clean transcripts, but we also recognize that not every instructor wants this option on. It would be great to have the setting be at the video or folder level like the download podcast or download slides levels.
Re: Add transitions, text, annotation, and graphic overlay ability to the editor
Is there any update on this feature? Our institution has a growing need for it.
Re: Capture a region of an screen
Being new to Panopto, I'm pretty disappointed to see that this is so slow to being added! It's standard on most (all?) other platforms.
Being able to set a section of the screen to capture would make a world of difference for our instructors. We have a lot of instructors who want this feature, but it's pretty critical for those whose office computers have the 3 foot wide, single screen display. Doing a full screen capture records the whole length of the screen. The options to record a window or tab just aren't flexible enough to record a lecture that includes PPT slides, online resources, documents, and more. The only option these instructors have is to record in another program then upload to Panopto or edit their Panopto recording after using multi-stream capture to show which window or tab they want the student seeing at that point.
The most ideal option would be having the option to select a section of their screen to record. That will allow them to drag materials in and out of the recording window, allowing the instructors to help the students focus on just the materials they're currently talking about.
By not having this feature you're pushing customers to other programs or expecting them to spend a significant amount of extra time to edit their recordings in ways that they wouldn't have to on another platform.

Enable 2 concurrent Panopto Assignment folders --Canvas (1) Discussions and (1) Assignments
Does anyone know if there's a way to bypass the current method for creating assignment folders, like enabling two Panopto Assignment folders, concurrently, for one course? The current Panopto Assignment folder is not suitable for multiple assignment folders running concurrently (can't add sub-folders and must close and open new assignments when they require different permissions. This makes designing for Master Courses quite a challenge, and for course copies impossible for automatic folder management.
Use Case: Faculty assign two types of Canvas assignments with video: in Discussions and in Assignments. Both require different permissions.
What I need: automatically Provision Panopto Assignment folder ->
- Sub folder -> Video Assignments ; Permissions: Restricted (viewable by person submitting and teacher)
- Sub folder -> Discussions ; Permissions: everyone enrolled in the course.
@Caitlin McCabe - Any suggestions?
Re: Transfer Creator / Ownership
Thanks. I've submitted a feature request. As students and employees leave our institution . . . the burden of retaining videos falls on the Panopto Admin. Individuals should be able to transfer their own videos to others.
I appreciate your reply!

Re: Option for viewers to download captions / transcript
Is it safe to assume that creators will still be able to download and edit the srt file and re-upload. I find it easier to edit large caption files outside of Panopto.
Re: Option for viewers to download captions / transcript
@Matthew Ribkoff , I spoke to Panopto about this and saw some screenshots and that's exactly what this will be.
Plain text with no time codes.
And there was much rejoicing…
