Re: Priority Archive Restoration
Hey Michael!
Another great suggestion! You know the drill — I've filed this away, and we'll consider it for the future. I especially appreciate the focus on making such adjustments an Admin-related tool.
That said, I did want to add some context on the restoration process and how it's behaving right now.
We've recently adjusted the maximum restoration time to 72 hours in some cases, which I know only makes your point even more valid, but I wanted to be sure current expectations are clear. We also aim to provide a more precise estimate of the remaining time for content restoration, which will help anticipate when certain videos will be available.
Re: Surface the metric produced by AccessAIQualityCheckEnabled
Amen. It seems like caption confidence is something that should be accessible and available for reporting.
Re: Knowledge Insights Feature Request
I think it would also be helpful to know, if it is a Panopto native recording, which device it was recorded on in addition to if there are any processing errors. In an ideal world, we'd also be able to generate reporting on the time it took for various steps in the processing queue. This would make it easy to keep an eye on system performance and potentially problematic rooms/buildings.
Re: Public Archive Restoration
Love the suggestion!
I've merged this with our existing request "FR-6775: Restore videos for unauthenticated users OR provide contact for viewers to request restore", which matches with this.
Re: Panopto for Windows/macOS: Automatic Audio Level Adjustment
I agree. Audio gain has been a solved problem for years in every other recording or videoconferencing app I use. It would be nice to see that in Panopto.
Submission declaration checkboxes on Moodle
Hello,
On moodle, when an assignment is setup, you have the option to insert a customised submission statement with the Require that students accept the submission statement.
Such a thing does not exist within the Panopto Student Submission by default (that I can identify anyway), so I wondered if anyone has any experience or advice in how this might be added in. I wondered if some custom CSS snippet could be inserted into the page but wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this.
many thanks,
Will
Re: Open Ended Quiz Type
This functionality would be very, very helpful. Currently, if instructors want to use a video-based assessment in which students must write their own answers, they must continue to use the Canvas Quiz option. The Playposit quiz embed tool I used while at Rutgers can do this--instructors can grade the quizzes in Playposit, and once synched, those results are fed to the Canvas Gradebook. While a tool like Playposit may have a steeper learning curve than making Panopto quizzes, I still think instructors and students alike would benefit from this feature.
Re: Open Ended Quiz Type
As a business university, we need to be able to pose questions and receive answers that include mathematical expressions and formulas—especially in subjects like finance, statistics, economics, and quantitative methods.
Therefore, support for LaTeX in the quiz feature is not just a “nice to have,” but a necessity to ensure academic quality and relevance in our teaching. Faculty members who teach in these disciplines currently opt out of using Panopto’s quiz feature precisely because it does not allow for properly formatted mathematical notation in questions and answer choices.
Re: Set a default thumbnail for a specific folder
Having something like this would go a long way in keeping track of numerous separate folders cataloguing recordings at different times throughout the day!
Re: Force New Occurrence Behavior for Viewer Completion Affirmation
This is something that we often run into in higher ed and how I recommend our folks handle it is to make a new reference copy for each cycle. I'm not sure if Cornerstone has support for a "Course Copy" feature, but if it does, it's very possible that Panopto could develop a process to make new reference copies each time a course in the LMS is copied. This is what is done in Canvas with the LTI 1.3 integration, and it works fairly well.
Panopto doesn't (yet) have support for "terms" so there isn't anything on the Panopto side that would allow them to identify/differentiate views coming from different contexts or times within a single artifact. Unless reference copies are used, all of the views are pooled together.
